About Us

The Emmaus Catholic Young Adult Group was started in 1996 by Fr. Ducci in Orange Park, FL. The group first met in the Wilcox house, moved to St. Catherine’s, and then due to the group’s growth and mission ultimately to Assumption Catholic Church. We chose the name “Emmaus” because of the passage in the book of Luke 24:13-35. We love this passage because it deals with the Lord opening the eyes of those who are blind to the truth. The two men’s minds are opened to the Truth when Jesus teaches them about Himself starting from the Old Testament to His death on the Cross to His Resurrection. Afterwards the two men recognize who Jesus is when He gives them the Eucharist i.e. His very Body and Blood in Communion. Our group’s mission is to open the hearts and minds of young adults to Jesus in order to live a holy life. We seek to proclaim the Gospel, which includes all of the Church’s Teachings. We do this by having guest speaker’s talk about the faith, Bible studies, Mass and Adoration, worship music, retreats, sports, and more. We believe in building a strong community of Catholic young adults whose goal is to change lives and live lives of holiness for Christ.

"Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" Luke 24:32.

Thurs: Holy Mary and Sean Wilcox

This Thursday Emmaus is having our dear friend Sean Wilcox discuss St. Mary and her role in Salvation History. Sean is very knowledgeable about our Holy Mother. He used to be part of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate. This religious order has a special devotion to our Lady. Sean will touch on topics such as Mary as Co-Redemptrix, Mediatrix, and Advocate as well as go over some important insights into Mary's role in the Nativity story. Be sure to come out and enjoy the discussion.

On a side note: Emmaus got its start at Sean's house which is also the house we are having the Christmas Party at on the 12th. RSVP on the Evite I sent.

Tues Movie Update - Father of Mercy

This Tuesday we will not be watching the Black Robe because I could not get the movie in time from blockbuster so it must be God's Will. Instead we will watch Father of Mercy: The True Story of Venerable Don Carlo Gnocchi. I recently got this movie from the Catholic Bookstore.
Movie will start at 7:00 because it is a longer movie.

Call me if you need directions. 307-0824 or john6bb@yahoo.com
Synopsis: A powerful epic film on the life of Fr. Carlo Gnocchi, an Italian priest who labored heroically to minister to the wounded and dying soldiers during World War II, and to victims of the war on the home front. While teaching students at the Gonzaga Institute in Milan, Fr. Gnocchi volunteered to be the military chaplain on the war front. After witnessing the horrors of the war, helping many suffering soldiers, and miraculously escaping death, he returned to start a foundation for the many children who were victims of the war. Starring Daniele Liotti (St. Anthony), this film tells of Don Gnocchi’s inspiring work with the students, the soldiers, and the children. His great legacy lives on today in the Don Carlo Gnocchi Foundation that provides medical care for thousands of patients in over 75 hospitals and clinics in Europe.

Tues Movie- Pollyanna

Thus Tuesday we are going to watch something lite hearted but filled with spiritual insight. We are watching Pollyanna. It is a Classic Disney flim and one of my favorites. I hope to see you out this Tuesday.
Synopsis: The young, orphaned Pollyanna (Hayley Mills) arrives in a town that's embattled by feuds and intimidated by her rich, bitter Aunt Polly (Jane Wyman). But before long, Pollyanna's transformed the community with her indomitable will to see the good side of even the worst situations. Mills received a special Academy Award for her performance in this timeless Walt Disney tapestry of small-town Americana.
