About Us

The Emmaus Catholic Young Adult Group was started in 1996 by Fr. Ducci in Orange Park, FL. The group first met in the Wilcox house, moved to St. Catherine’s, and then due to the group’s growth and mission ultimately to Assumption Catholic Church. We chose the name “Emmaus” because of the passage in the book of Luke 24:13-35. We love this passage because it deals with the Lord opening the eyes of those who are blind to the truth. The two men’s minds are opened to the Truth when Jesus teaches them about Himself starting from the Old Testament to His death on the Cross to His Resurrection. Afterwards the two men recognize who Jesus is when He gives them the Eucharist i.e. His very Body and Blood in Communion. Our group’s mission is to open the hearts and minds of young adults to Jesus in order to live a holy life. We seek to proclaim the Gospel, which includes all of the Church’s Teachings. We do this by having guest speaker’s talk about the faith, Bible studies, Mass and Adoration, worship music, retreats, sports, and more. We believe in building a strong community of Catholic young adults whose goal is to change lives and live lives of holiness for Christ.

"Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" Luke 24:32.

Biking the Rail Trail this Sun., 10/26

Hey everyone,

This Sunday, 10/26, we will be meeting at the Rail Trail (https://www.traillink.com/trail/jacksonville-baldwin-rail-trail.aspx) to do some leisurely biking.  Let's meet at the Imeson Rd trailhead (directions below) at 1pm with the intention of getting on the trail at 1:30pm.  This will give us time to make any last minute adjustments on our bikes, put air in tires, etc.  We will ride for as long as the group decides to go (last time we went for 1 hr. out and 1 hr. back, with some breaks).  Some things you should bring with you:

Bike (please send a shout out if you have an extra bike or need a bike and we all will see how we can help)
Plenty of water
Hat
Sunscreen
Sunglasses
Bug repellent
Closed toe shoes

Directions to the Rail Trail:

To reach the Imeson Road trailhead from downtown Jacksonville, take I-10 west to Exit 356/I-295 North and head up I-295 to Exit 9/Commonwealth Avenue. Drive west on Commonwealth about 1 mile to Imeson Rd and turn right. The marked trailhead is on the left.

If you have any questions call Russ at (352) 359-0629 or Mike at (904) 755-8820.  We hope to see you on Sunday for a great day of fun and fellowship!

Emmaus This Thursday, October 16, Mass and Dinner

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This Thursday, October 6, we will be doing something a bit different for Mass. We will be going to St Joseph's Historic Catholic Church for Mass at 6pm. According to the website, there isn't Confession available before Mass, but always worth a shot if you arrive a few minutes early. St Joseph's Historic Catholic Church is located at 11730 Old St Augustine RD and is across the street from the main church, next to the Cody Enrichment Center. It is the small white building. Afterwards we will be going out to dinner somewhere near by.

We look forward to seeing you there,

Emmaus Core Team
