About Us

The Emmaus Catholic Young Adult Group was started in 1996 by Fr. Ducci in Orange Park, FL. The group first met in the Wilcox house, moved to St. Catherine’s, and then due to the group’s growth and mission ultimately to Assumption Catholic Church. We chose the name “Emmaus” because of the passage in the book of Luke 24:13-35. We love this passage because it deals with the Lord opening the eyes of those who are blind to the truth. The two men’s minds are opened to the Truth when Jesus teaches them about Himself starting from the Old Testament to His death on the Cross to His Resurrection. Afterwards the two men recognize who Jesus is when He gives them the Eucharist i.e. His very Body and Blood in Communion. Our group’s mission is to open the hearts and minds of young adults to Jesus in order to live a holy life. We seek to proclaim the Gospel, which includes all of the Church’s Teachings. We do this by having guest speaker’s talk about the faith, Bible studies, Mass and Adoration, worship music, retreats, sports, and more. We believe in building a strong community of Catholic young adults whose goal is to change lives and live lives of holiness for Christ.

"Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" Luke 24:32.

Thurs-Do you know what a Sacrament is?

Do you know what a Sacrament is? What it does to your soul? Or why you need Sacraments? Well this Thursday we will discuss these questions and much more. This month Emmaus will be starting our series on the Sacraments. We will be discussing each Sacrament with a local priest throughout the quarter. Be sure to come out this Thursday. If you rarely come to Emmaus think about being part of the community and growing in your faith. To learn about your faith is to worship God and to fellowship with each other is to fellowship with the Holy Spirit in each of us.

Important Emmaus Info Please Read

Join this New Emmaus Yahoo group if you want to send and receive prayer requests, faith questions, discussion questions, words of encouragement, comments and suggestions for and from the Emmaus Catholic Young Adult group.

This Yahoo group is not for posting Catholic Young Adult Events. The regular Yahoo group, emmauscya@yahoogroups.com , will be used for posting Young Adult Events and other very important Young Adult info. If you wish to post prayer requests, faith questions, discussion questions, words of encouragement, comments or suggestions for the Emmaus group please use this yahoo group, emmauscyaprayer@yahoogroups.com, and not the Emmauscya@yahoogroups.com group.

Why another Emmaus Yahoo group?
The Emmaus Core Team is trying to reduce the number of e-mails that come through that are not related directly to the Emmaus group but are important for the Catholic young adult community as a whole. Therefore, the Emmaus Core team would like to keep one yahoo group for Emmaus events and the other for news, prayer, and discussion. If you have any questions please let me know at john6bb@yahoo.com .

* For those who wish to receive only Emmaus event e-mails do not join this group.
* If you want to receive prayer requests and etc. then subscribe using emmauscyaprayer-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

Holiness, can I really be Holy?- Fr. Jose 6/18

This Thursday Fr. Jose Kallukalam from St. Paul's at the Beach will discuss what Holiness is and the keys to living a holy life. He will answer questions such as:

How can I be Holy when I constantly fail and sin?
Is Holiness really real?
I thought only God was Holy so how can I be Holy?
Are there any spiritual tools or things that I can do to live a Holy life?

Come out and discover how to live a life of Holiness for God.

In Christ,
Sean and the Emmaus Core Team (David, Jennifer, Peggy, Andrea, Paul.S)

New Catholic Videos - Priesthood

In honor of the Year of the Priest as called for by Pope Benedict 16th I will be posting a new men's vocation video once a month. I just posted 4 new videos on the blog. God in the Streets of New York, Fishers of Men, and the first vocations video of the month , the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate. Check them out. They are really cool. You can also check out the mens vocation links on the side bar which will include a link to the Religious order whose video is posted. There are also women vocation links, of course unrelated to the priesthood.

Enjoy!!

Fr. Larry's Last Mass with Emmaus

This Thursday at Emmaus we will be having Holy Mass with Fr. Larry (a Maryknoll priest). Fr. Larry will be retiring in August and moving (toChicago I believe). He is really looking forward to doing Holy Mass for us and we will have a chance to say goodbye to him and wish him well in his retirement. ( I will bring a card for all of us to sign)

Fr. Larry will be at St. Ephrem's at 6:30pm to listen to confessions, so if you didn't get a chance to go last week with the Friars this would be a great opportunity. Or if you did go last week and would like to go again... this is a great opportunity as well! :)

Holy Mass will start promptly at 7pm. Please come out and say goodbye to Fr. Larry, he has been coming to Emmaus the last couple of years and has really enjoyed seeing the young adults and was always willing come celebrate Holy Mass for us when was not out of town doing missionary work forMaryknoll. We hope to see you this Thursday!

May the Holy Spirit bring joy and peace in your life and guide us to encounter an intimate relationship with Jesus.

In Christ, The Emmaus Core Team(Jennifer, Andrea, Sean, David & Peggy)"
