Hello Brothers and Sisters!
This Thursday at Emmaus, Fr. Remek will be speaking about one of his heros and ours, Blessed John Paul II, the Great! Everything from his favorite writings or qualities of JPII to how this future Saint has impacted his own life (and many other vocations that have come from Poland) is on the table.
We can't wait to see you, so grab a friend, and join us for a great faith discussion and fellowship this Thursday at 7:00 PM at Assumption in Kohl's Hall (all are welcome for praying the rosary beforehand at 6:30).
with love in Christ,
The Emmaus Core Team

The Emmaus Story:
28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them. 30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” 33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread. Luke 24: 28-35

About Us
The Emmaus Catholic Young Adult Group was started in 1996 by Fr. Ducci in Orange Park, FL. The group first met in the Wilcox house, moved to St. Catherine’s, and then due to the group’s growth and mission ultimately to Assumption Catholic Church. We chose the name “Emmaus” because of the passage in the book of Luke 24:13-35. We love this passage because it deals with the Lord opening the eyes of those who are blind to the truth. The two men’s minds are opened to the Truth when Jesus teaches them about Himself starting from the Old Testament to His death on the Cross to His Resurrection. Afterwards the two men recognize who Jesus is when He gives them the Eucharist i.e. His very Body and Blood in Communion. Our group’s mission is to open the hearts and minds of young adults to Jesus in order to live a holy life. We seek to proclaim the Gospel, which includes all of the Church’s Teachings. We do this by having guest speaker’s talk about the faith, Bible studies, Mass and Adoration, worship music, retreats, sports, and more. We believe in building a strong community of Catholic young adults whose goal is to change lives and live lives of holiness for Christ.
"Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" Luke 24:32.

Saturday May 8: Mass of Priestly Ordination

Hi friends,
We have a weekend full of blessings and celebration in our diocese! On Saturday, May 8 Deacon Sal DiFazio will be ordained into the priesthood at the Cathedral Basilica. The ordination mass begins at 10:30 a.m.
Anyone who would like to go, let’s plan to meet at 10:15 outside in the little garden area on the east side of the Cathedral (on the right side if you’re facing the Cathedral from the gazebo in the downtown square).
And don’t worry about playing volleyball in your church clothes—everyone’s welcome to come to Liz’s place after mass to get ready for the beach!

New Catholic Videos - Priesthood

In honor of the Year of the Priest as called for by Pope Benedict 16th I will be posting a new men's vocation video once a month. I just posted 4 new videos on the blog. God in the Streets of New York, Fishers of Men, and the first vocations video of the month , the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate. Check them out. They are really cool. You can also check out the mens vocation links on the side bar which will include a link to the Religious order whose video is posted. There are also women vocation links, of course unrelated to the priesthood.
Enjoy!!
