About Us
The Emmaus Catholic Young Adult Group was started in 1996 by Fr. Ducci in Orange Park, FL. The group first met in the Wilcox house, moved to St. Catherine’s, and then due to the group’s growth and mission ultimately to Assumption Catholic Church. We chose the name “Emmaus” because of the passage in the book of Luke 24:13-35. We love this passage because it deals with the Lord opening the eyes of those who are blind to the truth. The two men’s minds are opened to the Truth when Jesus teaches them about Himself starting from the Old Testament to His death on the Cross to His Resurrection. Afterwards the two men recognize who Jesus is when He gives them the Eucharist i.e. His very Body and Blood in Communion. Our group’s mission is to open the hearts and minds of young adults to Jesus in order to live a holy life. We seek to proclaim the Gospel, which includes all of the Church’s Teachings. We do this by having guest speaker’s talk about the faith, Bible studies, Mass and Adoration, worship music, retreats, sports, and more. We believe in building a strong community of Catholic young adults whose goal is to change lives and live lives of holiness for Christ.
"Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" Luke 24:32.

Important Novena to St.Philomena

As many of you may know St. Philomena is a patroness of Emmaus. She is a patron of young adults and is very dear to many of us. Her feast day is on the 11th of this month, therefore I encourage, everyone in Emmaus or who is a young adult to pray this novena together over the next 9 days for the intentions of the young adults in the diocese and for you own intention.
St. Philomena is a Saint who is little known but who was made a Saint because of the many miracles wrought by her intercession. She was called the "Wonder Worker of the Nineteenth Century" by Pope Gregory XVI. St. John Vianney, CurĂ© of Ars, attributed every miracle in his ministry to St. Philomena’s intercession.
If you are struggling with having a child or you know someone with mental illness or that is sick or have any request at all pray this novena and trust in her intercession.
Patronage: against barrenness, against bodily ills, against infertility, against mental illness, against sickness, against sterility, babies, children, Children of Mary, desperate causes, forgotten causes, impossible causes, infants, lost causes, Living Rosary, newborns, orphans, poor people, priests, prisoners, sick people, students, test takers, toddlers, young people, and youth.
Copy and Print off the prayer in Word.
Novena Prayer to Saint Philomena. – Start on the 3rd –Tuesday- Ends on the 11th of August
Illustrious Virgin and Martyr, St. Philomena, behold me prostrate before the throne whereon it has pleased the Most Holy Trinity to set thee. Full of confidence in thy protection, I entreat thee to intercede for me with God. Ah! From the heights of heaven deign to cast a glance upon thy humble client. Spouse of Christ, sustain me in suffering, fortify me in temptation, protect me in the dangers surrounding me, and in particular..(mention your petition). Above all, assist me at the hour of my death. Amen.
St. Philomena, powerful with God. Pray for us.
I encourage you all to read about St. Philomena and have a devotion to her. Check out the websites below.

P.S. On Thursday next week I will be bringing a second class relic from her for people to touch.

Sat 9/26 -Eucharistic Procession for Life

This Saturday, tomorrow morning, there will be a Eucharistic Procession for Life. We, Emmaus, have 10 spots reserved for us in the procession. Only 200 can be in the actual procession; however, anyone can come for the Mass with the Bishop and the Rosary.
We will walk from Assumption to the Planned Parenthood on Beach Blvd. This is part of the kick off for the 40 days for Life. It is a good opportunity for you to pray for an end to abortion, especially in Jax. Let us flood heaven with our prayers and sacrifices.
If you would like to be in the procession e-mail Dan Mull at aqualaterischristi@gmail.com.
Time: Those in the procession will need to go to a table at the back of Assumption church by at least 7:45 AM to pick up a name tag and go to their seats. At 7:45, any unclaimed spots will be filled by any subs we have and (if necessary) anyone else we find who is willing to walk.
Where: Start at Assumption Parish and walk to the Planned Parenthood on Beach Blvd.
God Bless! Now is the time to stand for Christ and Life!
In Christ,

Marian Pilgrimage Saturday

Hi Friends,This is Joe Johnson, and me and several others will be making a pilgrimage from Our Lady Star of the Sea in Ponte Vedra to Our Lady of La Leche in St. Augustine this coming Saturday 8/15. I would like to extend an invitation for you to join us on this journey. This walk will take us about 12 hours or so with a few breaks worked in. The distance is about 23 miles and we will do the large majority of it on A1A. Come out and enjoy the scenery and ocean breeze as you pray. We will meet at Our Lady Star of the Sea in the morning and finish at the Shrine around 6-8 p.m. This journey will take the entire day so plan accordingly.
The plan is to pray the entire Rosary (20 Decades) twice and also the Divine Mercy Chaplet. As we complete our walk by crossing the Vilano Beach Bridge we will pray the Stations of the Cross. There will also be plenty of time for fellowship and individual prayer. There is no need to pack a lunch as we will stop at the Gate station. It is important to have snacks and PLENTY of liquids. Running or walking shoes are a must as well as comfortable loose fitting clothing. A few pairs of socks and a hat and sunscreen are needed as well.
We wil be happy to add your petitions to our own as we walk and pray. You may send your petitions in response to this email. Again all our invited male and female respond directly to this email (yates_fan32216@yahoo.com) or call me at 651-6975. Right now we have 9 participants let's make it 12 like the Apostles! Finally we are in need of people willing to transport us back to Our Lady Star of the Sea afterwards. You would only be required to meet us at the Shrine and transport some tired, suffering slightly smelly people. I will reimburse you for the cost in gas. I look forward to hearing from you. May God Bless You All.

Our Spiritual Director - Fr. Ed Murphy

Recently I had announced at an Emmaus meeting that our Spiritual Director was Fr. Ed Murphy. Some people have also asked what a spiritual director or Fr. Ed does especially in regards to Emmaus.
Well, by having Fr. Ed as our spiritual director the Catholic young adult community can have a priest to confide in, go to confession with regularly, receive individual spiritual direction, and receive the other sacraments as well. Fr. Ed will try to come to Emmaus more often to be there for the Catholic young adult community. A Spiritual Director is about helping one grow in their faith. They act as an outside party to see the things in your life that hinders your relationship with God. They might give suggestions to help you grow or guide you in something else. Many Saints have said that in order to be a true well formed Christian one should have a spiritual director.
Many of us know the difficulties of this year with the passing of our friend Danny, economic hardships, and much more. Fr. Ed is here to help you with his prayers and counsel. Please feel free to confide in him for anything.
Fr. Ed and the Emmaus Core Team desire to bring more young adults into the Emmaus Catholic Young Adult Community but we cannot do it without your prayers and involvement. The reason Emmaus has been around for 12 years is because of the commitment of its members in going each Thursday and leading other to Christ through the Emmaus ministry. We therefore encourage all young adults from age 20-39 to come each Thursday and make a commitment to grow in fellowship with the Lord and each other. Do not let shyness, a lack of knowing people, or a lack of knowledge of the faith deter you from coming. Our enemy, the devil, desires a community divided and void of relationship and faith. Let us therefore show the devil that we have and can overcome him and the world and build this community up into a City of God or a light upon a hill.
To contact Fr. Ed call Immaculate Conception Church (downtown Jax) - (904) 359- 0331
or e-mail him at ewmurphy@windstream.net .
If you have any suggestions for Emmaus please contact Fr. Ed or someone on the Emmaus Core Team. Show Fr. Ed you are thankful to him and send him an e-mail of appreciation and love in this Year of the Priest. May God Bless you all and especially Fr. Ed Murphy for his support of Emmaus. May we bear much fruit for the Lord.
In Christ,
Sean and the Emmaus Core Team (David, Jennifer, Paul, Joe, Peggy)

Start the Divine Mercy Novena Today
Today the Church begins the 9 day novena prayer ending on Divine Mercy Sunday (next weekend).
http://www.fisheaters.com/divinemercy.html
http://www.divinemercysunday.com/
Pray the Chaplet at 3:00PM on Divine Mercy Sunday and the Novena.
"On each day of the novena you will bring to My Heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this ocean of My mercy... On each day you will beg My Father, on the strength of My passion, for the graces for these souls. By this novena I will grant every possible grace to souls." (Diary 1209, 796)
In reference to Divine Mercy Sunday:
"The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet.... Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy." (699)
