About Us

The Emmaus Catholic Young Adult Group was started in 1996 by Fr. Ducci in Orange Park, FL. The group first met in the Wilcox house, moved to St. Catherine’s, and then due to the group’s growth and mission ultimately to Assumption Catholic Church. We chose the name “Emmaus” because of the passage in the book of Luke 24:13-35. We love this passage because it deals with the Lord opening the eyes of those who are blind to the truth. The two men’s minds are opened to the Truth when Jesus teaches them about Himself starting from the Old Testament to His death on the Cross to His Resurrection. Afterwards the two men recognize who Jesus is when He gives them the Eucharist i.e. His very Body and Blood in Communion. Our group’s mission is to open the hearts and minds of young adults to Jesus in order to live a holy life. We seek to proclaim the Gospel, which includes all of the Church’s Teachings. We do this by having guest speaker’s talk about the faith, Bible studies, Mass and Adoration, worship music, retreats, sports, and more. We believe in building a strong community of Catholic young adults whose goal is to change lives and live lives of holiness for Christ.

"Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" Luke 24:32.

Young Adult Day of Reflection this Sat., 4/25

Hello brothers and sisters in Christ,

We hope you are having a joyful Easter season!  This Saturday, 4/25, the Diocese is having a Young Adult Day of Reflection at St. Luke's in Middleburg.  We as Emmaus will be attending the event.  Here is a portion of the email from Mike Sylvester, Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry:

"I wanted to send you a quick email to let you know about an upcoming event for Young Adults sponsored by the Diocese.  On April 25th we will host the first Young Adult Day of Reflection at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Middleburg, FL. Fr. Jeffery Kirby, S.T.L., from the Diocese of Charleston, SC will be our presenter for the day.  Our day will be a mix of presentations by Fr. Kirby along with discussions amongst other young adults.  Our day is called, “Lord, Teach Us to Pray,” and will be focused on how we communicate – not just with our words – with God by our lives.

The cost for the day is $15 and that includes lunch and a copy of Fr. Kirby’s book. My hope is that you will be able to join us on the 25th. Young Adults can register at www.dosafl.com/yaday"

You can pay at the door if you prefer (my guess is cash only), but please register online so Mike can get a head count for lunch.  We look forward to seeing you there!

For those who did sign up, we do ask that you show up by 5:30pm. Thanks to those who did let me know you'll show up not to long there after. As mentioned before, please wear a white shirt and black bottoms, please look professional (no t-shirts and so forth). We do have a table reserved for us and dinner will be provided as well.
