About Us

The Emmaus Catholic Young Adult Group was started in 1996 by Fr. Ducci in Orange Park, FL. The group first met in the Wilcox house, moved to St. Catherine’s, and then due to the group’s growth and mission ultimately to Assumption Catholic Church. We chose the name “Emmaus” because of the passage in the book of Luke 24:13-35. We love this passage because it deals with the Lord opening the eyes of those who are blind to the truth. The two men’s minds are opened to the Truth when Jesus teaches them about Himself starting from the Old Testament to His death on the Cross to His Resurrection. Afterwards the two men recognize who Jesus is when He gives them the Eucharist i.e. His very Body and Blood in Communion. Our group’s mission is to open the hearts and minds of young adults to Jesus in order to live a holy life. We seek to proclaim the Gospel, which includes all of the Church’s Teachings. We do this by having guest speaker’s talk about the faith, Bible studies, Mass and Adoration, worship music, retreats, sports, and more. We believe in building a strong community of Catholic young adults whose goal is to change lives and live lives of holiness for Christ.

"Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" Luke 24:32.

Thurs- 40 Days for Life

This Thursday Emmaus will meet on the sidewalk in front of the "A Jacksonville Women's Health Center". This place is one of three abortion mills in Jacksonville. We are not meeting at St.Ephrem's this Thursday! We are meeting there for this fall's 40 Days for Life campaign. We will be praying the Rosary at 7:00Pm followed by a Divine Mercy Chaplet. We will also pray the St. Michael Chaplet and have some time for individual prayer. Let us prepare for this night in prayer and fasting. We will win this battle against the Enemy and defeat him by our prayers and sacrifices.

Help us save the babies, mothers, fathers, and abortionist souls and bring about conversion. Be there at 7:00PM. If you can't make it on time it is ok; just show up.

Madeas Family Reunion - Tues night movie

This Tuesday night movie we will watch a funny movie called Madea's Family Reunion. We will start the movie at 7:30. Give me a call if you are interested in coming out to watch the movie at my house (307-0824).

Synopsis: Actor and playwright Tyler Perry returns as Madea, a brash but loving African-American grandmother with her own way of doing things in this screen adaptation of his popular stage comedy drama. Madea has her work cut out for her when she finds herself dealing with a handful of family crises the same weekend that she's planned a massive family reunion. Her niece Lisa (Rochelle Aytes) is engaged to marry a handsome and successful man (Blair Underwood), but the good news is blunted when she reveals to her friends that he beats her. Another niece, Vanessa (Lisa Anderson), has been having romantic problems of her own, and isn't sure she should take another chance on love with a humble but good-hearted bus driver (Boris Kodjoe). Madea's older sister dies, with the funeral landing the same weekend as Lisa's wedding. And on top of all this, a court order forces Madea to look after Nikki (Keke Palmer), a troubled and angry teenager from a broken home. Madea's Family Reunion also stars Lynn Whitfield, Jennifer Lewis, Cicely Tyson, and Maya Angelou. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Sat 9/26 -Eucharistic Procession for Life

Emmaus Members,

This Saturday, tomorrow morning, there will be a Eucharistic Procession for Life. We, Emmaus, have 10 spots reserved for us in the procession. Only 200 can be in the actual procession; however, anyone can come for the Mass with the Bishop and the Rosary.

We will walk from Assumption to the Planned Parenthood on Beach Blvd. This is part of the kick off for the 40 days for Life. It is a good opportunity for you to pray for an end to abortion, especially in Jax. Let us flood heaven with our prayers and sacrifices.

If you would like to be in the procession e-mail Dan Mull at aqualaterischristi@gmail.com.

Time: Those in the procession will need to go to a table at the back of Assumption church by at least 7:45 AM to pick up a name tag and go to their seats. At 7:45, any unclaimed spots will be filled by any subs we have and (if necessary) anyone else we find who is willing to walk.

Where: Start at Assumption Parish and walk to the Planned Parenthood on Beach Blvd.

God Bless! Now is the time to stand for Christ and Life!

Jones plays young French peasant girl Bernadette Soubirous, who sees a vision of a "beautiful lady" near her home in Lourdes in 1858. Based on the novel of the same name by Franz Werfel, THE SONG OF BERNADETTE explores Bernadette's trials and tribulations from her impoverished family to her difficulties at school to the derision her visions bring upon her and at last to her affliction with bone-marrow cancer. Under the incisive eye of director Henry King, the film is seen through Bernadette's perspective but at the same time focuses upon the effect that Bernadette has upon her family, her champions, and her detractors. The acting is excellent, and no detail has gone untouched in the art direction, costumes, and cinematography. Best of all, THE SONG OF BERNADETTE stands among a rare group of Hollywood films in which visual integrity is matched step for step with thematic zeal.
