About Us

The Emmaus Catholic Young Adult Group was started in 1996 by Fr. Ducci in Orange Park, FL. The group first met in the Wilcox house, moved to St. Catherine’s, and then due to the group’s growth and mission ultimately to Assumption Catholic Church. We chose the name “Emmaus” because of the passage in the book of Luke 24:13-35. We love this passage because it deals with the Lord opening the eyes of those who are blind to the truth. The two men’s minds are opened to the Truth when Jesus teaches them about Himself starting from the Old Testament to His death on the Cross to His Resurrection. Afterwards the two men recognize who Jesus is when He gives them the Eucharist i.e. His very Body and Blood in Communion. Our group’s mission is to open the hearts and minds of young adults to Jesus in order to live a holy life. We seek to proclaim the Gospel, which includes all of the Church’s Teachings. We do this by having guest speaker’s talk about the faith, Bible studies, Mass and Adoration, worship music, retreats, sports, and more. We believe in building a strong community of Catholic young adults whose goal is to change lives and live lives of holiness for Christ.

"Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" Luke 24:32.

Thursday 3/15/12 at Emmaus

Come join us this Thursday as we discuss Pope Benedict XVI’s first Encyclical Letter, Deus Caritas Est (God is Love), given on December 25th, 2005. God is Love is at the heart of our Christian Faith, and this encyclical is full of beautiful messages, helping us to know and to believe in the love God has for us. This should give us renewed energy in our response to God’s love.

We will be meeting at Assumption at 7pm; rosary will begin at 6:30pm. We will be meeting in the Family Life Center, room 2B. Attached is a link to the encyclical if you would like to read or look over some of it before the meeting. Look forward to seeing everyone!

Emmaus This Thurs., 3/1

Hello brothers and sisters,

This Thursday for Emmaus we will join the parish of Assumption in the last day of their lenten mission with Fr. Brian Mullady from 7-8:30pm in the church. Fr. Mullady's talks are centered on the theme of growth in prayer. The title of his talk on Thursday is "Spiritual Maturity." Each night there is Mass (except for Wed.) with confessions available afterward. If possible, maybe consider attending the other talks this week. Tonight Fr. will be talking about "Spiritual Childhood," and on Wed. he will be talking about the "Dark Night of the Soul -- Spiritual Adolescence." Let's try to sit together on Thursday in the front left quadrant of the church. See you then (if not sooner)!

Praying that we all have a most blessed and fruitful Lent!

Emmaus this Thurs., 2/16

Hello brothers and sisters in Christ,

This Thursday at Emmaus we will have Dan Mull speaking with us on Pope Paul VI's encyclical Humanae Vitae, on the Regulation of Birth. This encyclical was very prophetic when it was written in 1968 on what would happen in society if contraception were to be accepted as the norm. Dan has a Master's Degree in Theology from Ave Maria University and is passionate about pro-life issues. This topic is also very timely considering the Church's fight against the Health and Human Services Mandate. So join us at 7:30pm in Kohl's Hall for what promises to be a great discussion! Rosary at 7pm if you can make it a little early.

In JMJ,

The Emmaus Core Team

PS- Don't forget, starting next week, 2/23, our meetings will begin at 7pm with rosary at 6:30pm.

This Thursday - Discussion on Blessed JPII's "Love and Responsibility"

Hello brothers and sisters!

This Thursday at Emmaus we will have a discussion on Blessed John Paul II's (actually Karol Wojtyla's) Love and Responsibility aided by Dr. Edward Sri's book Men, Women, and the Mystery of Love. What Christopher West has done for Theology of the Body, Dr. Edward Sri has done for Love and Responsibility. This book is based on the thesis that real love does not use another for his/her own pleasure, but seeing the great dignity of the other, seeks to love as God loves and thus welcomes and feels a profound sense of responsibility for another that accompanies real love. The chapters are short, but are power packed with Catholic awesomeness (aka beautiful truth! ... no fluff). In fact the book was written for discussion in groups and has great discussion questions all ready to go at the end of each chapter.

So grab a friend, or remind one you just met or haven't seen in a while, and meet us in Kohl's Hall at 7 PM for rosary, 7:30 for the rest.

with love in Christ,

The Emmaus Core Team

"Love consists of a commitment which limits one's freedom - it is a giving of the self, and to give oneself means just that: to limit one's freedom on behalf of another. Limitation of one's freedom might seem to be something negative and unpleasant, but love makes it a positive, joyful and creative thing. Freedom exists for the sake of love." Emmaus This Thursday

Hello brothers and sisters in Christ,

This Thursday at Emmaus we will have Gerald Lamb come and speak with us about our responsibilities as Catholics in the political arena, moral issues we should have in mind when considering a candidate, and the order of priority of issues in general. Gerald has a Master's in Theology from Franciscan U. at Steubenville and is well versed in politics, so this should prove to be an informative and engaging discussion. Hope to see you Thursday at 7:30pm in Kohl's Hall. Come at 7pm for rosary if you can!

Confession (6:15) and Mass (6:45) followed by Fellowship at Emmaus this Thursday!

Hello Brothers and Sisters!

This Thursday Emmaus will start EARLY with Confession available at 6:15 PM and Mass celebrated by our Spiritual Director, Fr. Ed Murphy, at 6:45 PM. Following Mass, we will leave Assumption at 7:30PM to get some grub and spend some time in fellowship together!

A leper came to him and kneeling down begged him and said, "If you wish, you can make me clean." Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, "I do will it. Be made clean."

If we could only see the tenderness with which He offers US healing ... they couldn't keep us from running to Him!

See you all Thursday! with love,

The Emmaus Core Team
